Question
I recently added a dwarf gourami to my 10 gallon tank that has 2 medium sized goldfish in it...I was told that they were comaptable, and that the gourami could tolerate room atemperature aquarium...do you have any thought or suggestions? I've been feeding tropical fish flakes as well as smal tropical fish floating pellets. The goldfish seem to be thriving on this diet...is it adequate for the gourami?

Answer
The flakes alone are just fine for the gourami's just make sure to not overfeed. The pellets sometimes have a tendency to make the tank more messy than flake food alone. As for the temp, yes I suppose gourami's CAN survive in room temp but they surely dont prefere it. If they are doing fine you can leave it. However, keep in mind that goldfish are coldwater fish and gourami's are tropical and do best in temps around 74-82 degrees. Now, if room temp means around 72 but no lower than 72, than that temp is just fine for the gourami's. Just keep a track on all the fishes behavior. The gourami's can bother the goldfish so make sure that does not happen, a stressed goldfish is very hard to get back to normal. Also, be sure the gourami are ok in the temp and they are acting normal. See what the water temp is, if it is at least 72, its just fine. Let me know if you have more questions.
