Question
I have a 20 gallon (long) freshwater tank, and I need some help seeing how many fish will fit. I would like to put a small number of Black Kuhli Loaches, Silver Hatchetfish, and Red-Belly X-Ray Tetras together. Preferably, I would like to have an equal amount of each of the three fish.
Thanks for your help!

Answer
Sean,
The minimum size tank for 1 Black Kuhli Loach is 10 gallons where 20 is better. The minimum size tank for 1 Silver Hatchet fish is 20 gallons, and the minimum size tank for 6 Red-Belly X-ray Tetra is 10 gallons. You might be able to get away with 12 of them in a 20 gallon. With the Tetra's you will want to get no less than 6 because they are schooling fish. With the loaches, you will need at least 3. When I say they need a minimum amount of tank I mean that the Loach needs 10 gallons just for him, and so on. Since the tank is a 20 gallon, you can try 3 of the loach and hatchets and 6 of the tetra's. Since the tetra's are schoolers they have to be in at least 6 but no more than 8. I hope this has helped.
