Question
I have conditioned a female and she is large w/eggs I spawned her w/ a crowntail male w/ a very short body they came together and I saw many "hangs" from both, but no eggs released. So I had another male almost conditioned and have placed them in a spawning tank they have began to spawn, but once again I see no eggs falling? Is there any thing I can do? both males have short bodies and heavy finnage.

Answer
Hi Ms. Green,
I would keep working with your pairs. Betta breeding almost always has difficulties and its a very big trial and error situation.

Sometimes a betta pair will do the "embrace" several times without any eggs but usually eventually they will get it right. Unexperienced fish are usually the ones to do this the most but even experienced fish may take a while.

So I wouldn't give up and keep trying. If they don't spawn successfully one day, give the pair a break and try again tomorrow. Eventually you should get a spawning.

Best wishes and best of luck!
Karen~
