Black Moor Floating

25 9:02:22

Question
I have a black moor fish that was very healthy up until a move, at which point it began turning white on his belly.

About a month later he began floating every once and a while after meals (flake food).  We treated him with anti-bacterial food, but that seemed to have little effect.  We then switched to food for an internal parasite.

He continually floated to the top (almost fighting to keep from bobbing upward).  The floating has become more consistent, and he now has bits of red in his belly.

When his food is dropped in, he still perks right up, but his floating has gone from on his back to on his side.

Do we have any hope of keeping our fish in the family?

Answer
Hello,

This sounds like it could be caused by a water quality problem. You should immediately check nitrites and ammonia.

If water quality is not the issue, I would recommend trying a stronger antibacterial. You did not mention what type you were using but I would recommend a tetracycline or triple sulfa product.

I hope this helps.
