Ichthyophthirius multifiliis medication

Question
I thought I read somewhere that there was a new freshwater fish medication for treatment of Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, a.k.a "ich" of fish that not only treats them, but does not the kill plants or color the water or aquarium objects. Do you know what the brand name of the medication treatment is called, how long the treatment is (I have read it takes 4 days at 85 F with no host to kill the protozoa parasite) and who might carry it?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Mark;

I don't know of any 'new' ich meds, but you don't need medication to kill ich anyway. Just 85 degree water and aquarium salt. Ich hates both. Medicines only burn the fishes' skin, eyes and gills, stressing them further. Use the salt at a dose of one teaspoon per gallon of tank water. It helps the fish fight stress and helps kill the parasites. Keep the temperature up for two weeks and add extra aeration too. The higher temperatures cause oxygen saturation to be lower and some tanks just need the extra air.

Once treatment is over, let the temperature slowly drop as you turn the heater down. The salt will go away slowly as you make your weekly or bi-weekly water changes.

Followups welcome
