Question
my fighter fish is about 6 months old.(by default i am referring to the fish as she) she is very active but recently she just lies on the rocks and hardly moves. swims very little. there is slight depigmentation near the gills. we feed her tropical fish food pellets wheat germ. we change water once every 3 days and temperature is generally around 20 degree centigrade.she stays in a small round bowl alone. kindly help. also suggest any other precautions and habits.

Answer
Hena,

How are you sure she is 6 months old. If you bought her at a pet store than chances are she is more like a year. As for the food, as long as the food is made for Betta's then that will be fine. I don't know much about the different types of pellets because I feed my Betta's a food made just for them that I have to buy online.

I see a couple problems that when fixed she should be fine.

1. She does not and cannot live in a bowl. She needs to be in a tank that holds no less that 2.5 gallons of water but a five gallon would be better.

2. Betta's are tropical fish and having her water at 20 c (68 degrees) is way too low. When their water gets too cold they become lethargic. She needs a heater and it needs to be set at 82 degrees. Once you get her the bigger tank and the heater you will see he become more active. If after you do both of these and she doesn't get better ( but I am thinking she will) or she gets worse let me know.
