Pleco and Guppy fry

Question
Hi, I have 9 one month old guppy fry in my community tank. They're big enough now that my guppies and platys couldn't eat them but I also have a pleco and a suckermouth catfish. Will either of these fish bother my fry?
Also, in another tank I have a pictus catfish, whom I think took a bite out of a platy's tail. In this tank is a pleco, endler's livebearers, platys, and the pictus, he's the only logical culprit, right? So is it safer for me to move him to a tank with african dwarf frogs or should I just take him back to the pet store? Thanks

Answer
Hi Mandy!
It is always possible that your Pictus catfish could be the one who nipped your platy. But sometimes male platies will fight over females or space and it is always possible one of them could have nipped the other's tail. That is, if you have a few males... But usually platies are quite peaceful with only occasional squabbling. Oh yeah, your pleco nor your suckmouth catfish shouldn't harm your guppy fry at all, and should mainly mind their own business.
Watch your pictus catfish and make sure he doesn't keep nipping your fish. Only the occasional Pictus individual is nippy, they will eat smaller fish able to fit in their mouths so be careful, remember the fact that Pictus can grow to about 6 inches or so.

I don't know whether if you were meaning to move the guppy fry or the pictus into the dwarf frog tank but this is almost your decision and judgement. It depends... I'm pretty confident about the Pictus doing no harm to the frogs as long as they aren't too small, and the aquarium itself isn't too small for the pictus, since they do grow to a medium size. Be sure everybody in that tank is getting adequate food and the Pictus isn't taking all the food from your little frogs.

I really hope this helps! If you have anymore questions, feel free to email me!

Best of luck with your babies!
Happy fishkeeping!
