Question
i have two tanks, one for cichlids and one for other fish. the cichlid tank is crystal clear. the other looks like a smoke bomb hit it. both tanks are the same size and get the same treatment. the redtails on the sharks are a pale pink and i am losing gouramis. the cichlids are doing great. any ideas?

Answer
Hello,

You should check all your vital aquarium statistics. This includes ammonia, nitrites and chlorine if you can. Also, do you have any driftwood in your aquarium? That can cause cloudy water. Did you rinse your carbon before putting it in your filter? That can cause cloudy water and fish deaths/illness.

You should start doing water changes of about 10% every day or two to help clear up the water and remove whatever pollutant is causing it. You should also use Cycle, if you don't already, and of course dechlorinator if you are using tap water. You may also want to syphon your gravel and clean out your filter.

I hope this helps.
