Dojo Loach...sick or genetic disorder?

Question
In one of my tanks I have a some neons, 2 leaf fish, and 2 dojo loaches. Last night, they were all fine. This morning, one of my dojos is bent in the middle. He seems perfectly fine. He is eating, playing with the other dojo and is as active as normal. He swims fine but a bit akwardly due to the abnormality, but does not look like he is in pain. This is not the first time that I have seen this, as I saw a golden dojo like that in a different pet store awhile back. I was recently in that store again and saw that it was still there. I am curious as to if it is a disease and if it is going to kill my fish or not, if it is contagious, or if it is just a genetic disorder or something. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Answer
Hi Amy,
It can be a deformity which has been passed on from his parents or it can be Neon tetra disease. Neo tetra disease can cause a deformed spine and erratic swimming behaviour. There is no treatment available for Neon tetra disease. It is a slow killing disease and the fish will suffer. If your fish starts to deteriate then euthanization is possible.

Chloe.
