Question
thank you chris. i have had the aquarium for only a week, so i am fairly new to everything. i think the fish had ich before i purchased it, but at such a minute level that an inexperienced person like myself was not able to pick up on till too late. i am using quick cure, hopefully everything works out, because i have some neat fish that are already adapting to me. thanks again.

-----Question-----
do you do water changes while medicating fish for ich? what is the proper procedure for doing so? thank you for your time.
-----Answer-----
Hi Aric;

It definately removes some of the free-swimming ich and helps the fish get stronger if you make water changes during treatment.

It also depends on what type of medicine you are using. If you are using one that is added daily over a period of days, make a 25% water change right before the addition of that day's medicine. If the medicine is a type of copper and is added only one time during treatment, water can still be changed but... you have to use more medicine to treat the fresh water added when 25% is removed. Don't treat the whole tank again or you will overdose them.

I'm not sure what you mean by "proper procedure" for water changes. I am concerned that it means you have not been making any water changes up to now. ALL tanks need a 25% water change once a week so the fish and the system can have fresh clean water on a regular basis to stay healthy. Here is a page about how to do that and why;
