Question
QUESTION: I have 2 female platys and on swordtail male (and one african frog)in a 10 gallon tank. For the few days all my fish are hiding all day they just come out to eat. what is the problem?

Nitrate - 20ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
GH - 75ppm
KH - 120ppm
Ammonia - 0ppm
pH - 6.8
Temp - 80F

ANSWER: Israel,

I'd drop the temperature down to about 76F for about a week and then bring it back up to no higher then 78F, any higher and fish become sluggish and will spend a great deal of time hiding and not moving around.

Best,
Craig.

QUESTION: Ok, the platys are now coming out, the swordtail is still hiding.
I noticed one platy is developing fin rot, should I use MelaFix?

Answer
I wouldn't, What you can do is add about 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 2 gallons of water, this will kill the bacteria causing the fin rot as well as boost the slime coat and immunity your fish have.  Keep it at this level for about 4 days and then do a 30% water change, then in another 4 days do another 30% water change after which go back to your normal maintenance schedule.
