How to remove ich in cycling tank?

Question
my tank is 55 gal set up three weeks ago.  I bought the tank used with a few fish.  It was full of snails so I Put fish in temp tank and tor down and cleaned 55gal to remove snail.  Set up tank and while tank is cycling three fish had white spots on fins and body(second week).  Pet store had me take out charcoal filters and treat water with coppersafe.  Now my ammonia levels are rising.  I have been changing five gal a day still high ammonia is there anything else i can do.  They sold me prime to remove ammonia then four days later I went to them again and said my levels are not dropping.  They said I have to put filter back in.  So now I don't know what to do except keep changing water.

Answer
Hi Bob:  you have to raise the temperature of the tank to about 82 degrees for freshwater fish and 78 for goldfish.  The raised temperature will help to shorten the life cycle of ICH.  It will also help to cure the fish faster.    Continue to treat the tank for ICH and remove the filter.  You are going to have to do 30-35% water changes every two days.... to keep the ammonia levels down.  The best thing would be to put the fish into a hospital tank and then just let your 55 gallon cycle.  Without a fish in there the ICH will die off within 7 days.  You can add beneficial bacteria to the tank in a double strenth dose to help the tank cycle faster.
