Organda Gold Fish

Question
Hello David, you were helpful when I had a few questions in June.  So I was hoping you could help me again.  I have the BioOrb fish tank, I have a fantail goldfish, a Organda goldfish and a male betta fish.  Over the weekend I noticed Max our Organda Gold fish was struggle to stay straight. He was on his side.  By last night he was belly up, but still struggling.  I changed the fish water (since it was brown & cloudy) and I put in a first aid filter into the tank. Adding some powder as recommended from the product.  My husband said that Max was full of gas and needed to be squeezed, so he did some pressing, nothing happened.  Make went back into the clean tank and when I went to be he was still belly up.  this morning he was swimming like he had always, better than every.  I was relieved and excited, since no one wants a pet to die.  My husband said that the fish doesn't look bloated and that's what it was.  I don't know.  Can you give a suggestion, on what it could have been?

Answer
He may have been full of gas but please tell your husband that while meaning well... he could have ruptured an organ and the fish would have died a horrible death.  From now on you need to feed the fish... all of them... brine shrimp.  They have tiny little shells that help to keep the intestinal tracks of fish cleared out so that your husband doesn't have to feel the need to squeeze them.  dave
