Question
I have one dalmation molly and a reddish color molly in a 20 gallon tank,i woke up one morning and saw three babies swimming around,is it safe to keep the babies in the same tank? The 2 mollys don't seem to be bothering them? And will my dalmolly give birth all the time?

Answer
Hi Jackie,
The parents might eat the babies, but if you provide the fry with enough fake plants, live plants, or decorations then they will be ok.  Not all the fry will reach adulthood but most will.  As the fry get older and become juniors, the adults will be used to seeing smaller fish of their kind and will gradually not bother any future frys.  And yes they will give birth all the time.  Mollies, Platies, Guppies, and Endlers are very prolific and will give you many babies.

If you are afraid they will get eaten, you can buy a breeding net.  It looks like a basket with very small holes, like a fishing net formed into a cage.  It will save more money than buying another fish tank that includes more gravel, more decorations, filter and heater.  Also, the advantage of the breeding net is, the water quality will match that of the main tank's.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
