Mollie babies

Question
My son has a 10gallon tank with 4 mollies (2 black and 2 dalmations, 2 dano stripped, 2 neon?  I suspected that one of his mollies was pregnant last week.  I wasn't sure and was researching on internet last night.  When I went up to check on the fish, there were fry in my tank.  I could only see 3 of them, but the tank has medium size stones on the bottom and plants for hiding in.  I'm not sure what to do.  Is it too late for the breeding net to separate the fry from the other fish until they get bigger or should I just let nature take its course?  Also, because of the birth, should I do another water change or wait?  Is the bacteria level higher because of the delivery?  What do I do?

Answer
Hi Lisa,
Theres 2 options you can do, either catch the babies and place them in a breeding net until they are bigger to be released back into the main, or let nature take its course.  I used to do the breeding net, but I realized that they breed so fast, that its uncontrollable.  I now just let them take its course.  But I do realize that at first, the parents used to eat their own babies, but as they age and become juniors, and the adults get used to seeing smaller fish, and eventually, the babies never get eaten.  Most of my babies live to adulthood.  But I also have a lot of ground cover for them.  You continue to do regular water changes, nothing is different.  To feed the fish, crush flakes and place it over the water flow of the fiter, the pieces will fly down and the babies will get some of them.  If you are feeding them in the breeding net, crush the flakes and make them sink.  Remember it has to be a fine powder, or it will be too big for them to eat.
