QuestionI purchased a few snails on valentines day along with some fish. I do not know much about either of the two but recently one of my black and white polka dotted fish died and now one of my snails is actin funny. I haven't seen much activity if any at all out of it for a few days. I was wondering how do I know if something is wrong with my snail. And is there a possible connection between the two dying?
AnswerHi Lakia,
There is a really good chance you have high nitrites or ammonia in the water.
Snails will die from nitrites/ammonia and so will fish.
The fact that you lost both the fish and the snail is probably an indication of a serious water condition.
My recommendations:
Change 25% of the water tonight, and 25% tomorrow.
Clean all filtration units.
Happy fish-keeping.
