Question
Hi Jaymie, I bought a female mouthbrooding betta from Wal-Mart about two weeks ago and I think shes pregnant mainly because if I look closly enough at her stomach I can sort of see what looks like white round things in it, she also has a small white dot thats under her belly and it looks like its getting bigger, Im starting to get worried because if she is pregnant and is ready to lay her eggs she doesnt have a male to give her eggs to. So would you please tell me if she is pregnant and if so what to do.
Thank You So Much!

Answer
Blake,

If there is no male to help her out, she will absorb the eggs. Just keep a close eye on her because you don't want her to become egg bound. I personally have not had that happen, but it can. When I have a female that is with eggs and I don't want her bred, I will stop feeding her for a couple of days, and that is when the eggs get absorbed. These types of fish do not become "pregnant" since they are egg layers. Let me know if anything changes or you have any more questions.
