Danios, aquarium covers, filter

Question
Hi,

I have three questions for you:

1.) Which type of fisk would be compatible with my four zebra danios. I
am almost ready to add more. I read different things online and
somethings are contradicting. (Also I want a good mix of fish per level...like
I know that Danios stay mid to top of tank)

2.) Since my tank is a hexagon I am having a tough time finding an
aquarium cover. The Aquatics specialist at Pet Co told me to go to home
depot and have a custom piece of glass made. But then I would need some
room for the filter and stuff like that. So my question is should I try
to make something that is half glass/half mesh? I want to get a cover
before I get more fish.

3.) My tank is in my room and I have a power filter. It make that
waterfall noise and I can't sleep. Should I buy a canister filter for my 30
gallon? I want something that will spit the water back out under the
water level so that it wount mae any noise.

Answer
Hi Monica;

For your glass cover and lighted hood you should go to a smaller store. The owner-manager small retail places would be able to help you get a top for your tank. They might be able to order a ready-made one. Larger chain stores like PetCo often can't or won't do that.

If your tank has a heater, mid-water fish such as platies, swordtails, neons and other tetras, rasboras, cherry barbs are good to live with danios. Lower level tropical fish that do well with them are cory cats, khuli loaches and dwarf plecostamus.

A canister filter would be great. They are powerful but usually pretty quiet. Pretty efficient too. I like Fluval and Eheim personally. Good power and reliable.

Have fun!
