Theoretical/Basic Total Weight Equation

Hello Richard,

I managed an independently owned and operated pet store years ago that carries a wide variety of fresh and saltwater supplies and fish.  Almost everyday I was able to figure out the total filled weight to a fish tank (gravel and water only to receive maximum weight results).  Now, I cannot for the life of me remember what that equation was.  Can you help jog my memory?

Hi Kelly

I don't use any equation, I take the weight of the aquarium, the weight on the bag(s) of gravel and add 8.3 lbs per gallon of water. Below is a link to help you with the most common size tank weights and dimensions.
