Weird scale on betta.

Question
Hi Jaymie,

I have bought a crowntail betta, and for the first few weeks it had been rather good. But i just noticed a weird scale on its head, which is sort of yellowish gold in color, while the surrounding scales are dark blue. Also, it has been occasionally resting on decorations or at the bottom. Is it just resting or is there something wrong? Ammonia and nitrites at 0, nitrates near zero. I am feeding it flake food and peas occasionally. It is in a 2ft by 1ft by 1ft tank. Thanks :)

Answer
Nick,
The scale could just be his coloring. I have a blue half moon double tail and he has 2 scales that are green. As for the resting, if this is happening at night, he is sleeping. If there are decorations in the tank they will lay on them. If he is eating ok and not showing signs of illness or injury, there really isn't anything to do as of yet. Just keep an eye on him and if things change let me know.
