my first fish bowl or tank

Question
hi i've been looking for breeds of fish (other than the gold fish) that would be good for my first possible fish tank or bowl. but there's only one problem..... every fish i like is tropical! i don't want any tropical fish because there tank or bowl has to be kept at a certain temputer and i don't want to take the risk of killing the poor fish. i know betas are tropical but they seem like a decient first fish. do you have any suggestions for what my first fish should be? my prefernce would be something that goes well with maybe 1 or 2 other fish (i know if i do that i can't put them in a bowl)thank you soo much!!!!

Answer
Bri,

Well, to start, no fish should be kept in a bowl. They are just not big enough. Betta's are awesome fish, but they too are tropical and need their water to be 80 degrees at all times. The good thing about them though is they do not need a filter. Most other fish do. As for cold water fish, you can try Danios, minnows, barbs, most of the loaches. Bitterling's are good but they do tend to fight if you have more than one male. Some tetra's are good for cooler water. Just pick the one fish that you just have to have and then we can pick others that will go with it. Remember the tank has to be big enough and will have to have a filter.
