Mirror betta

Question
Hi,

I have a betta in his tank and he has no other fish with him. My friend yesterday told me that to cure boredom and loneliness I should put a mirror next to the tank all day and let him flare. Will this tire him out? And will he hurt his gills from flaring all the time?

Hi Monty;

It is just fine to let them do that. It isn't any different than having another betta in the next tank with a piece of glass between them. If you worry that he spends too much time there, only put it up part of the time.
