frothy water

Question
I have a Betta in a vase with a peace plant.
I changed the water yesterday using bottled and replaced the plastic holder for the plant.

Today I noted the water was frothy or bubbly around the edges of the vase.

What happened?

Answer
Hi Michelle;

Your betta may be making a bubble nest after feeling good from the fresh water. The bubble nest is where eggs would be after he spawns with a female. He takes the fertilized eggs and spits them up into the nest. He guards them and replaces any that fall, even after they hatch. Pretty cool actually! Change your betta's water once a week to help keep him healthy. Here are some sites that tells more about Bettas if you are interested;
