Bubbley eye on beta

Question
Hello,
I just received two male beta fish for V-Day. I have a fish tank that is probably 1-1.5 liters, with a divider. I didn't know how warm to keep there tank until recently, but they have only been at room temp for a week. One of my beta's developed a bubble around his eye and it looks as if he got a scratch around his right gill. I was away for the weekend, and had a friend watch them, so they had been in the water for about 5 days only, and developed this. How can I treat/prevent this from happening again and is there tank big enough for two?

Answer
Hi Hailee;

I think they need a bigger tank. He may have injured himself from being in too small a tank. Each fish needs about 2 liters to have enough room. Change all the water at least once a week with water that is the same temperature as the old water. Also use a water conditioner.

The water temperature in their tank needs to be at least 75 degrees fahrenheit. 78 or 80 is even better. A little tank with a light will help that. Even better is a tank of 20 liters or so with a thermostatically controlled heater. Heaters aren't made for tanks smaller than that to be used safely. Once the water is warmer your little betta will probably heal just fine on his own.
