My Betta is acting weird

Hello,  My name is Travis and I am 14 years old. I have a question about my betta fish which is acting really weird lately. from now to yesturday it has been just laying on the bottom gasping air.  (you could tell because its mouth would open and shut every half a second.) I know it is going to die sometime but is there anyway I could save it be for its to late?  One other thing, It's tail is being shreaded and it doesnt have much tail left on it.  Please reply soon.

Hi, you must doo this really quick get him out of their andchange all of his water make sure it is much warmar than the water he was previously add some salt about a teaspoon and a half of per 10 gallons of water, then you must go too your local pet store and buy him what is called MELAFIX.This should help him if you are not to late.THANKS!
