convict ciclid has been hiding behind a rock

Question
I have a 100 gal tank built in the wall and have 1 pleco and 4 african ciclids.  One of them is a Convict Ciclid - striped. He usually hangs out and is easy going with the other fish. He has always been responsive and looks at me. Lately he has been hiding away behind rocks and will peek out once in awhile and hide away.  This has been going on for the last three days.  The other ciclids seem to be okay.  I'm worried about him.

Answer
Hi Judy,
Just so you know, convicts come from Central America, not Africa.  Are you sure that he is a convict cichlid, i.e., does he have vertical bars (convict), or horizontal stripes (likely
something else)?

I wouldn't worry about him at all.  That sort of thing is
perfectly normal for a cichlid.  The important thing is that he has some hiding places to go to when he wants to hide. That is the key.
