ANSWER: Live plants by far, the reason for this is that live plants support a micro scopic life called infusoria. The live eat this infursoria and can live off it for weeks. Plastic plants do not have this.

Java moss is the best live plant for fry to hide in, followed by anacharis and hornwort.

Pretty good prices here. I don't really go on any online stores too often, reason being I'm dept. manager at my pet store so I can order myself anything when I need it. That is the only online store for livestock I really go to.
