my paradise fish can you help me?

Question
Hi,
I have two paradise fish which i got around 3 weeks ago & one of them always seems to open its mouth really wide & charge at the other one, i think that they are female & male because one's fins are allot longer & pointer than the others. I separated them with a piece of glass about 3 days after getting them & now they swim up & down it & push against the sides as if they wanted to get back in with each other.
The reason why i separated them is because the charging got so bad that whenever i looked over at teem the short fined one was lying over in the corner not moving while the long fined one was watching it.
whenever i walked over to the tank the long fined one would come over to me & the other one would look at me then quickly swim up to the surface & grab a gulp of air i think the long fined one likes to show off. anyway once it got a gulp of air the long fined one would realize & chase it back into the corner again & try to what i think is bite the other one.
so what do i do I'm scared that one will kill/hurt the other if i put them back together, but it looks ugly with the piece of glass in the middle.

Answer
Hello Michelle-

You definitely need to separate the two - paradise fish are known for being very vicious to others of their species. Sometimes you can get lucky and find two that get along, but usually one will be the dominant fish and pick on the other one.

You can use the glass panel, or you can purchase a clear screen that is built to fit your tank. They look very professional, and are not noticeable when installed correctly. You could also return one of the fish as a last resort.

Hope this is useful,
