clowdy water

Question
set up about 5 months, 10 gallons, one mini puffer one adult platty and about 25 babies one new algea eater.
I vacuum gravel every 1-2 weeks with water change, every water change i use stress zyme (live bacteria) water conditioner (prime)& correct ph 7.0.   this seemed to happen after I started feeding fish frozen baby brine.
Tank is super clowdy, for the last two days I have been treating with some water clearing stuff 1-2 drops per gallon.  not working.
Thank You!
Diana

Answer
Hi Diana;

There are probably a lot of tiny particles floating around in there. Frozen baby brine shrimp is pretty messy. Check the levels of ammonia and nitrite to be sure all is okay there. If there are no detectable levels of either, it's just particles floating around and you may have to stop feeding the baby brine and let it clear up. If either or both are elevated it means there is excess food in there and beneficial bacteria just can't keep up with it properly. Either way, keep making water changes and vacuum the gravel, maybe 25% twice a week until things are looking better.

If levels are okay, use a different clarifier. I prefer the kinds that are a dark brown liquid. The ones that are a clear or whitish liquid just don't work as well in many cases. Add extra aeration with an air pump and airstone to the tank too. Additional oxygen often clears things right up.

Avoid cleaning the filter right now. If there is a biological imbalance, you don't want to disturb the beneficial bacteria colonies. They live in the filter pads.
