algae fish death!

Hi,
My sucker fish died recently. I was just wondering was it old age! or something we did wrong? He was like 5-7 years old and huge! We called him Finbar because of his huge fins!! We fed him his pellet every day, the day before he died my father done something with the filter in the tank, he had done this once or twice previous... was just wondering if you had any tips on feeding, care etc so  we dont kill the other one we get :(

Hi Elaine,
  It is very hard for me to say with that information.  It could be old age.  What was done to the filter?

  I feed my plecostomus (algae eater) with algae wafers.
