Is my fish pregnant

Hi Lynda,

I am presently setting up a 55gal tank and being in Mississauga I would like to know if my platy is pregnant. I have just bought her from WALMART. How does one judge it the right time to separate from the rest of the fish.
have bought a plastic breeding tank that floats on the surface of the water.

Is their a strange behavior when the fish run up and down the side glass.

Hi Mark,
You can tell when your platy is pregnant because they get very plump.  Feed her well, as she is always hungry, and she won't eat many of the fry.  Going up and down the side glass could mean that she is trying to get the fry out...I would have to see her to be sure...sometimes, it's a sign of stress.
Keep feeding her, before and after the fry are born, as she will be very weak.
You may also look up on Google pictures of pregnant platys.  This would give you an idea.
