Question
i got a betta for for valentines day his name is zues

obviously it was a suprise getting him befor i could do research and find out what i need.
i read that i had to prepair water a week before getting the fish which wasnt possible but i filled up a take and placed his bag in the take for 40 mins before putting him in it, the water is conditiond and has a algue preventer. i dnt have many decorations as im still to get on my next pay, but he has a cermaic mermaid sign and a floting silk fake plant. zues is in a tank that is about 5 liters, i was told i didnt need a heater for its aus summer but im a bit worried about not having a filter till next week.

everynow and then he will rest on the bottom of the tank come up the tke in some air swim around and then go rest again, whats that about?

also my other question is i wanted to buy a real plant that gives oxygen, so whats the best plant and how do i put it in the tank and do i have to change after a certain amount of time?

if you could get back to me with the most infomation that would be great thanks

5 liters is not big enough for your Betta. He really should be in nothing smaller than 11 liters where 19 liters is best. He does not need a filter because he can get oxygen from the surface. As for the heater, as long as his water is 80 degrees at all times, then you will be ok but, if it drops at all then it would be better to have a heater. Fluctuations are harmful to the fish. If he is lethargic, meaning not swimming around, then he is telling you his water is too cold. As for the plant, with that small of a tank, there really is no room to add a plant. Plants also do not add a lot of oxygen, and since he has a labyrinth organ, there is no need to add the plant. You can, however, add an air stone if you still want to add extra oxygen.
