Question
QUESTION: Hi Lynda. I know, they used to love each other. They were fine before Rudolph died and then they started of pushing each other after he died and now it has escalated to  the point where they are pulling each other. Do you think it could have anything to do with the fact that Rudolph died? They are turning into nasty little fish aren't they? Keiko, Lunar and Willy never did this. At least the betta fish are behaving now. I will seperate Dasher and Comet right now. Why are they doing this?
Danielle.

ANSWER: I have no idea why they are acting like this, they use to get along so well...and your tank is big enough for both of them, so it can't be territory, unless they are getting very big for your tank.  Like I have told you before, I'm  not a Goldfish expert, and don't know much about their habits or why they would behave in such and such a way.  I know about tropical fish, and most of the families, but goldfish is not my expertise.  I know there is a lady on this site, that is a goldfish expert, she would know alot more than me about goldfish. I have a note on my profile telling people not to question me on Goldfish, and when they do, I tell them "It's not my expertise."  If it was I would be only to happy to help you, or others on goldfish, but I know only the basics.   I'm sorry, but I cannot help you with what's wrong with your little friends.

QUESTION: Hi Lynda. I will contact the lady. Thanks for telling me about her. If it is Jenny she was unable to answer y question on why I am losing fish but it's worth a try. I'm sorry, I didn't see that on your profile. The female Betta is sick. It looks like cloudy eye. What can I do for her. My friend has got worse. She has told me to put her two goldfishin with Dasher and Comet. I told her that isn't a good idea and that I have seperated them due to attacking each other but her goldfish are in a seperate 20 gallon tank.
Danielle.

ANSWER: Hi Danielle,
Cloudy Eye could be many things.  It could be flukes, parasites, an injury (Maybe the male betta did hurt her) For now, change all her water, make sure you put her back in the same temperature she was in, and use a good water conditioner.  You will have to treat her with "Kanamycin"  If you cannot find this medication, buy "Tetracycline" or "Furan 2"  Follow the directions on the package, be careful not to overdose.
Hope this helps, and that she recovers quickly.

QUESTION: Hi Lynda. I have good news and bad news. The good news is the female betta recovered quickly after I gave her the medication. She is fine now. The bad news is my friend died last night. She made me promise I would keep her fish so I will keep them. I put Dasher in a goldfish bowl. It's nly until the PH in the spare tank is fine and it is free of nitrates and ammonia. Will he be ok in the bowl until then? I will put him in the tank when it is safe to do so. Comet had white ich but I cured him of that. He is fine now. I have a part time job working in a pet store looking after the fish there. I start at Easter. I can't wait. How is your daughter's little goldfish doing?
Danielle.

Answer
Hi Danielle,
I am so sorry for your friend.  My deepest sympathy goes out to you.
About your Goldfish, I really don't know if he will be fine in a fish bowl.  He was in a 20 gallon tank, I would think NOT!!  I would put him in the tank, the water doesn't take time to get alkaline.  It would be too long a wait for him to stay in the bowl.  Ask a goldfish expert about that...I would think that the fish would get depressed in a bowl after being in a big tank.  My daughter's goldfish is fine.
That's great that you have a part time job at the pet store.  You will learn lots there.  I know you will like it.
Take care, and have a nice week-end.
