Question
I have two bugged eyed gold  fish im not sure of their real breed. One of them
has what seems to be white foam comming from its mouth nd is like on the
verge of dying,. i took him out of the tank and put him seperate from the
other. I cleaned the first tank that the sick fish was in and boiled the rocks,
when i looked into the tank i noticed the other fish had a small pouch almost
near its tail underneath. the pouch has little things hanging off of it. im not
sure if it is a female and pregnant of if they both are sick. I use a water
treatment that came with my tank and am not sure if thats it, PLEASE HELP

Answer
Hi Tasha,
I don't usually answer questions on Goldfish, but I will make an exception, and try to help you.
Your Goldfish has Fungus, and you will have to treat him with a product that you will find at your pet store which has "phenoxyethanol" in it.  Remove your carbon, and follow the directions on the package.  Fungus will happen if the water quality is poor, water changes should be made weekly, with a good water conditioner such as AquaPlus, or Stress Coat.  Fungus usually covers up other diseases, and your other Goldfish seems to have parasites.  Treat him with "Coppersafe" medication.  They are both sick.  The water treatment that comes with the tank is to remove dangerous metals from tap water, and should be used each time you do water changes.  To avoid sickness in your tank, do water changes every week of 25% and feed your fish well.  Contrary to popular belief, Goldfish do need a varied diet to stay healthy.  Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp, Flakes, pellets, basically any other food is good for them.  They also like cool frozen peas with the first layer removed.  It is better to vary their diet, keep their tank clean, then to deal with sickness.  Always make sure that you have no ammonia or nitrates in your water.  You can buy these small test kits at you pet store, and they are a "must have" in your fish cabinet.  Also check your PH.  Goldfish live in a 7.8 to 8.5 PH.  If your PH isn't high enough, add sea shells or a little bag of crushed coral to your filter.  Last, but not least, Goldfish need room to grow.  One goldfish needs 10 gallons of water, 2 goldfish 20 gallons, and so on.  They grow to be quite big, and if they don't have room to grow, their growth will be stunted, and their internal organs will not be able to develope normally, causing death.
I hope this information will help you, and that your fish will recover.
