Oscars and gold nugget plecos

Question
-hey again!  I decided not to push my luck, as my oscar actually expelled his buddy oscar out of the tank.  He appears to want it all for himself.  However, I did adopt another DIFFERENT SPECIES of pleco, very large and gorgeous who had outgrown his tank.  The two plecos ignore each other, and the oscar seems completely oblivious to both.  It was all that I needed to complete the tank.  I don't want to mess up a nice balance, so I will stop and leave well enough alone.  and, yes...I will try the zuchinni!  It sounds like fun to watch them!
have a wonderful week!

Hello again! Thanks so much for your reply!  No...the gold nugget cannot fit into the oscar's mouth, and so far, the oscar appears to be completely ignoring him. I already have bogwood in the tank, and little rock caves as well.  I hardly ever see the pleco...  Last question: If they were large enough, could a small (3-5) school of silver dollars live with my oscar, or am I really pushing my luck?  I would love to see a little variation in color and a bit more action in the tank.  Thanks. (tank is 55 gallon with no other inhabitants, except the oscar and pleco)

Hello!  I have a medium (about 5-6 inches)oscar living happily in a 55 gallon tank.  He is albino, full of personality and strong on appetite.  I recently aquired a beautiful gold nugget pleco.  At this point they are living peacefully together.  Can I expect this to last for their lifetimes?  (plenty of hiding places for the pleco, etc.)
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi Gloria,
Gold nuggets are exceptionally wonderful catfish.  Most of the time they should get along, assuming the gold nugget will not fit in the oscar's mouth (if it will, you need to get it out ASAP because otherwise you will find it in the oscars mouth with its tail sticking out. This situation won't be good for either the oscar or the gold nugget).

The gold nugget really needs some nice wood to hang out on. If you don't already, I have found that mine really likes to hang on the underside of a piece of near-vertical wood, that pieces is among a bunch of other pieces.  It is his safe spot and whenever the tank bully (a foot long royal pleco) is on the rampage, the gold nugget retreats to his spot and seems quite content.

Plecos like gold nuggets LOVE zucchini squash.

Hi Gloria,
No guarantees, but silver dollars would be a good bet as tank companions with the oscar and pleco.  Just remember: nothing that will fit in the oscars mouth!

Answer
Hi Gloria,
Get a zucchini squash and slice it lengthwise into four quarters.  Then using elastic bands, attach these pieces to heavy objects in the tank, e.g., a rock, or a piece of wood -- otherwise the zucchini will float.  Once they discover it, you will be amazed at how much they like it.
