QuestionHow can you tell if an Oscar is a male or female?
Thank You,
Diane
AnswerHi Diane,
Basically, you can't. Male and female oscars look very much alike. They are what we call "monomorphic" meaning that there are no telltale differences between them in shape, size, color, etc.
The only time you really can tell them apart is when they are spawning, because females have a more blunt-ended spawning tube than males, which have a more pointy spawning tube.
