QuestionHi,
I am wanting to get a girl betta fish. I don't know how to tell the difference to a girl betta and a boy betta. Please tell me how.
Danielle
AnswerHi Danielle;
Females have short fins and males have the long beautiful flowing fins. They both come in many colors but the males are usually deeper and more solidly colored. Here is a link to a drawing of a male and female;

It is important to know that a male and female betta cannot live together all the time. They can be together when it is time to spawn but then must be separated again. The male cares for the eggs and babies and can kill her to get her away from them. If they aren't yet ready to spawn when you put them together for that, one or the other could be killed too. Several females can be kept in the same tank as long as they are well fed and there is enough room. Just not male/male or female/male together. Here is a good web page on breeding bettas in case you are interested;
