Someone told me they have a frog in the same tank as their Beta, is this really doable?

As long as there is room and both animals have their needs met, yes. Sometimes bettas will bite the toes of frogs because they think there are worms there though. Provide plenty of hiding places for the frogs to get away when they need to. Here are links to info about frogs and bettas to help you;
