When do i need to turn the light on and off on my fish tank?

Hi Jennifer;

I turn mine on when I get up and turn them off when I go to bed. In some of my tanks I leave the light on all the time. Those grow lots of algae though. It's really up to you. If you have live plants, you should make sure there is at least 8 hours of light per day for them. Also, unless you have nocturnal fish, they need light to eat. If you leave them on a lot and you get too much algae, leave them on for fewer hours. Otherwise, whatever suits you.
