cichlid - growth on lip

23 14:45:39

Question
our cichlid has developed a growth on the lower lip that is a slightly smaller than a pencil eraser. it developed steadily over the period of 1 to 2 weeks. it now seems to have a small piece of red flesh breaking the skin. on the inside of the mouth there is no raised area but a darkening blotch has developed behind the growth. he occasionally bumps the glass but doesnt seem to be sensing pain or recoiling from the contact.

is there something we can do for this? is it something that will run its course?

Answer
Hi Bill,
It sounds like the equivalent of a blister, i.e., he has rubbed something (e.g., the glass, a rock, etc) and the area has swollen up.  I don't know of anything that you can or should do.  Hopefully, it will "run its course" as you say.
The good news is that cichlids have remarkable abilities to recover from wounds.
