which one is a female

hi my name is kevin Munoz, i want know how a fish is a male or a female right now i dont know the name of my fish but i will find out as soon as possible.My teacher told me that it depends if the fish has a big tale than its a male and the little tales are girls i have 2 males and female...i think, i dont know cause i have'nt seen no babys.I can tell you that i have a red blue and striped fish.....pleaze wrte bak...bye!

Hi Kevin,
 The answer depends entirely on which kind of fish you have.  In some species, the males and females are distinctly different. For example, in one species of cichlid fish from East Africa, the males are blue and the females are orange.
In other species, the two sexes might look identical.  There is no general rule that applies to all species of fishes.
