lump on side of oscar

i bought an oscar its about 2" and it has a lump on one side of it near its anus its sort of poking out a bit but the fish seems normal

Hi Chris,
  When you say the lump is on "one side", do you mean on the left side or the right side, as opposed to being in front of the anus?   

  If it is on the left or the right side, that is not good and indicates some internal problem with the fish.  If it is in front of the anus, that is okay in most cases.  

  It is really hard to say what internal problem the fish has -- it could be a tumor or it could be a parasite.  Is the lump getting larger with time?
