QuestionBefore you jump my case about having overstocked aquariums read my whole situation. I have 10 GLOfish babies(the colored zebra danios) in a 10 gallon tank a along with one baby pleco and 2 kuli loaches. This is my baby tank. I also have an adult tank with 9 MORE Glofish (the accidental parents of the babies), along with a rubber lipped pleco, 4 cory cats, and a female betta I had to rescue. I have great filtration and clean my tanks often, so my water quality is perfect and crystal clear. I vacume the tank whenever I can and do water changes pretty often. Before you call me terrible and say I need bigger tanks, I DO plan on getting a big tank so they can all be together (30+ gallons), but most of the year for a while they will have to stay in their 10 gallons because I cant have a big tank in my dorm room. we'll be getting a place so I can keep the big tank soon.
Anyway, ever since I got my cute little common pleco from walmart (He is was nice and fat and everything!) he has had white poop. i tried jungle fungus treatment and lifeguard, but it just wont go away. He gets fed zuccini every night and is nice and fat and seems okay, but I know the poop is bad. What should I do?
Also, How big of a tank should I really get?
AnswerHi Kelley,
The white poop indicates an intestinal infection. It would likely be bacterial so that is why the fungus treatment has no effect. I strongly encourage you to purchase your fish from a proper fish store.
When you feed zucchini, do you boil it first -- to soften it?. If you do, consider putting it in unboiled (raw). This will make it firmer and might help clear out the pleco's gut. It is worth a try.
BTW, a 30 gallon tank would be a good idea.
