open white sore on betta fish

I have a blue betta fish that has an open sore on its side that is white and large, what do I need to treat this?

Hi Jean,
 Is the betta in with any other fish, i.e., could this be the result of being bitten by another fish?  If so, then the most important thing to do would be to isolate the betta.
