Question
QUESTION: I love oscars and want to buy me some. I have a 55 - 58gallon tank with a few community fish, plants and drifwood. I want to get me the oscars, but I want to keep the plants. How can I prevent the oscars from damaging my plants and driftwood. Would rocks around the plants help?

ANSWER: You can only have one oscar in the 55, and unless you have REALLY good filtration, you should not be able to keep one.

Oscars do best with no plants, and no decor except one large cave.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply. The next question is about my current fish. I have two angels, 2 bala sharks, 1 ghost knive, 1 fire eel, 1 tyretrack eel and about 6 gouramis. ITs all in my 55 gallon tank. My ph is about 6.6 to 6.8 and I do a water change every week. But some of my gouramis dont eat and then they die. What could be the problem?

Answer
Gouramis are extrememly territorial, and it is very hard to keep them together without deadly fights. If you insist on keeping your gouramis, i suggest that you get a TON of fake/live plants. What that accomplishes, is, there will be so many plants, they arent always seeing one another, so their agression level is low.
