Pearlscale fish too bouyant

Question
My one pearlscale fish -male- appears to be too buoyant.  He struggles to stay at the bottom and then turns up-side down and stays at the corner.  This has been happening for a day, then yesterday, he appeared to be fine.  Now today, he is having buoyance problems.  He eats.  What do I need to do to help him?

Answer
Hello Vivian-

It's good to hear that he's eating - This will be helpful in curing him.

Firstly, you need to fast him for 2 days. You can feed the other fish in the tank (if you have any) but the pearlscale needs to be fasted.

At the end of the second day, offer the pearlscale a skinned, defrosted pea. Hopefully, he'll eat it. Feeding fish peas is a great way to relieve constipation (which is the most common cause of buoyancy problems.)

When you see improvement, gradually start adding his regular food back into his diet.

Hope this helps!

ps - If your other fish eat the peas, it won't hurt them. Just make sure the pearlscale gets a few nibbles.
