QUESTION: my fish started out a small fish and over the months it has gotten bigger but latley it has gotten massive and fat, i checked in my Tank today and he was even bigger it has also got clear/white froathy things on him i have got another fish in there and he is fine what should i do?

ANSWER: Jordan,

Well it is hard to tell about whats wrong with your fish because you didn't tell me what kind it is. I would remove the sick fish and place him in your hospital tank. This will help prevent the problem to go to your other fish. If you let me know what kind of fish it is I can help you get your question answered. Give me as much information you can. What kind of fish is it? How big of a tank is it in? What type of fish is the other one? As soon as you get the information to me the sooner I can get you an answer.

QUESTION: the spot things have gotten bigger, and both my fish are black moors he is very fat, but my other fish is fine still skinny and healthy

Answer
Jordan,

It sounds like your fish might have fungus growing on him. Black moor goldfish, like all the other goldfish, produce a lot of waste and needs to be in a large tank. With the 2 of them, they should be in nothing less that 50 gallons. You should be testing the water every week and doing 25% water changes at that time too. I would give your sick fish a salt water bath twice a day for a few days to see if that clears up the problem. Goldfish need to be in pristine water at all times. If after the salt water bath has not helped after 5 days or he gets worse let me know.

Salt water bath:

Get a one gallon container and dissolve 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt. If you do not dissolve it before add the fish, the salt can burn him. Make sure the salt water is the same temp as the tank. Let your Moor swim in this water for 15 minutes to half an hour. Make sure you stay with the fish the whole time in case something goes wrong you can take him out right away. Give him the bath in the morning and then again at night. Always make fresh salt water every time. Never use the same water twice. It is a good time to do a water change while he is in the salt water. Good luck with the fish.
