40 GAL TANK

Question
I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A 40 GAL TANK FROM A FRIEND.  I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CYCLING IT AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT TYPE OF FISH TO GET..ARE THERE ANY THAT COULD HANDLE A 40 GAL THAT HAS THE PERSONALITY OF THE OSCAR AND HAVE A LONGER LIFE SPAN LIKE THE OSCAR

Hi Tina,
  Many of the Central American cichlids are similar in personality to an oscar.  Thera are close to 100 different species so I won't list them all.  You might consider something like the Texas cichlid, or one of its relatives.  They don't get quite as large as an oscar and would do fine in 40 gallons.

 Alternatively, you might consider getting yourself a pair of convict cichlids.  They are my favorite fish and wonderful to watch as they breed and take care of their kids. They would be thrilled in a 40 gallon tank.
