Question
QUESTION: Hi
My female Guppy just gave birth to 7 fry just wondering if there is any thing special you must do with them except for having them in a breeding tank and have fry food and advice you could give would be greatly appreciated
thanks kaitlyn

ANSWER: Hi Kaitlyn,
Changing 25% of the water everyday would be good for them.  This would prevent ammonia build up in your tank, and it also makes the fry grow faster.  Ammonia is very bad for fish, it is the number one killer of fish, so this is why you must do water changes in your baby tank everyday.  They must be fed 4 times a day.  Never let the mother stay with them as she eats the fry.  Use a good water conditioner when making water changes, and make sure the water is the same temperature as the tank water.
Hope that you will have  7 beautiful fish

QUESTION: Hey thanks for that on the 25 December I will be going 1 hour away for a holiday what can I do with the fry coz if I leave there is no one to feed them
Should I bring them in the car??? Thanks

ANSWER: How long will you be gone?  They could go one day without, but not more seeing as they are babies.  What size tank are you keeping them in?  If you are gone longer, it would be better to take them with you.  I was just wondering, do you have a filter in your tank?  The water must have movement for the fry to have oxygen.  If you do take them with you, make sure the water doesn't get cold.
Have a nice Christmas

QUESTION: hi
i will be gone for 3 days coming home then going back for another 2.1/2 days the tanks is Length 16cm width 8 cm height is 13cm but i have the adults in the bigger tank
i have a filter in main tank but in baby tank is to small so i just have a air stone
thanks

Answer
Hi,
You cannot leave the babies alone for that length of time.  Fry must be fed 4 times a day, and water changes are a must.  Maybe if you asked a neighbour to come in and feed them.  You could ask your Pet Shop owner if he would take them for a week or so, maybe he would do this for you.  Taking them out in cold weather isn't a good idea, and they will need an air stone in order to breathe.  Your best bet would be to find someone reliable, and when you come back home, make a good water change.  There isn't much you can do now that I think of it.  Fry are not strong, and need care.  Take a chance, and ask your pet store, or ask a neighbour.  I'm sorry I cannot help you more in this situation.
Have a nice holiday
