Question
Hello,

I have had my best a for about 1 year now and in the past week I noticed the area right under his mouth is rather swollen. It looks like he swallowed a marble. I feed him about 3 pellets twice a day and I keep him in a room where the water is about room temperature. He is still pretty active and swims around a lot. He is in a large vase, about 1 gallon of water. I am not sure if he is constipated or if he has some sort of fluid infection which I assumed based on other Beta owner questions on your message boards. I tried peas yesterday and I am not feeding anything today to see if that helps. I also purchased some Maracyn 2 but I am not sure how to use the tablets in such little water. Any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Suarez;

If he's acting okay it probably isn't an infection. It may be constipation. Don't feed him for three days in a row and see if it gets better. Feed peas after that for a few days and see how it goes, or should I say if he "goes"....as in 'bowel movement' I mean. ;-)
